Planting Tips

When is the optimum time to plant grain sorghum?
Grain sorghum should not be planted until soil temperatures reach 65 degrees F. Normally this occurs mid to late May or early June.

What is the optimum seeding depth for grain sorghum?
Grain sorghum should be planted 1/2 to 1 inch into the soil. Do not plant deeper than 1-1/2 inches.

What type of seeding rate should be used?
You should target 50,000 to 100,000 plants per acre. For irrigated stands, you should target on the high side of this range. Always check your seed information for the recommended number of seeds per pound.
